These young people speaking today at #Marchforourlives are both breaking my heart and giving me great hope. The power and truth of their words, the devastating trauma and loss they have suffered and their choice to be active and demand a better life for themselves moves me to tears. The fact that these advocates come from so many backgrounds and circumstances encourages me because these coalitions are much harder to defeat.
When more people realize that our lives are all connected- people of color and white; male and female, young and older; rich, middle class and poor; suburb, rural and city; Republican, Democrat and Independent; Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Sikh, Hindu, Atheist, Agnostic;straight and LGBTQ: with and without disability- we have the power to overcome the fear that divides us the fear that causes some to look for protection by arming themselves. Ironically there will never be enough guns to make us safe. Only us seeing our common humanity can do that.
